The caller-ID for the calls shows the Norwalk Superior Court as the origin of the call, the state Judicial Branch said in an alert to the community.

According to the court, the callers are claiming that loved ones are locked up and they need to immediately provide a credit card number for bail.

"These calls are scams, so please do not provide any personal information, including our credit card," the department said.

The Connecticut Judicial Branch added that they would never make a call soliciting a payment.

Anyone who receives such a call is asked to contact their area police department as soon as possible.
